FCG provides a wind farm with owner’s engineer services in western Finland – the farm produces energy for Google

FCG Finnish Consulting Group has been selected to represent the owner in the energy producer Neoen’s Hedet wind farm project in Närpes in western Finland. Planned to be operational next year, the wind farm will produce wind power for Google’s service centre in Hamina in southern Finland.

The farm will consist of 18 wind turbines with a power production capacity of 81 MW. Construction will start later this year.

“During the construction phase, FCG will be in charge of monitoring earthmoving work and electrical installations and carrying out acceptance, installation and operational inspections of wind turbine generators,” says project engineer Hans Vadbäck.

“We bring a broad expertise in infrastructure, electrical systems, power generators and projects, combined with our strong local knowledge. We know Finland like the back of our hand,” says regional manager Jakob Kjellman.

A number of wind farms are being built in Western Finland and the Ostrobothnia region. FCG has a strong foothold in these regions as a partner for international energy producers and local companies.

“We have strong local connections. The Hedet project involves more than 100 landowners. Not only are we at home in local conditions, we also speak the local dialect. This is a key advantage when building trust between landowners and the international wind farm owner,” Vadbäck says.

The Hedet wind farm is owned by French Neoen (80 per cent) and Prokon Finland (20 per cent), a Finnish subsidiary of Prokon Regenerative Energie eG, a German renewable energy cooperative.

The farm is expected to be ready for energy production by the end of 2019. It is one of three wind farms in Finland, with Google buying all the energy produced. Last year, Google was the world’s largest buyer of renewable energy.
