The objective of the assignment was capacity development among Sida partners and staff, by helping Sida plan, organise and implement a workshop on the M4P (Making Markets Work for the Poor) / Market Systems approach and its application to specific and partly new areas. This served to encourage increased understanding as well as methodological development, in terms of increased and adapted adoption of a market-systems approach among all these actors and in collaboration between them, as a means to promote poverty reduction and inclusive economic growth in partner countries.

The assignment primarily focused on developing and implementing the 1½ day introductory course on M4P / Market Systems approach, and a ½ day session on Women's empowerment in relation to market development, with approximately 80 participants. Secondly, the team assisted Sida with the coordination of the contents and form of the entire workshop with the Sida partners (the ILO and CGAP) who contributed inputs and helped to organise the third day of the workshop (with a focus on application of the M4P approach to the ILO Decent Work Agenda and Financial Inclusion), so as to avoid overlap and inconsistencies and ensure synergies.
