Sida’s Urban Development Unit requested SIPU to carry out a study of two Sida financed urban development projects in terms of their potential in the areas of poverty alleviation, Job Creation and Local Economic development. The aim was to investigate the possibilities of using urban development projects in poverty alleviation and as tool in local economic development. SIPU ed one project based in a rural area of Namibia (Owambo Land) and one based in an urban area of South Africa (Kimberley).
