As recommended by Sida’s recent evaluation of the Urban Programme, the lessons learned from the programme were to be documented and disseminated to municipalities, relevant government departments and development institutions in South Africa and elsewhere. Sida entrusted SIPU International to take on the overall coordination of the documentation and dissemination, which was divided in two phases.

The first phase included a classification of and draft description of candidate projects and the second phase involved developing documentation material as well as planning, coordinating and carrying out dissemination events.

The work was done in consultation with the Embassy of Sweden in Pretoria, the cooperating municipalities Sol Plaatje, Nelson Mandela Bay, Buffalo City and with the urban advisors, who within the framework of a contract with SIPU,
were based in the respective cities throughout the lifespan of the programme.
