The Environmental Sector Programme Support (ESPS) is the first phase of a foreseen longer time (10-15 year) support to the environmental sector in Kenya. ESPS supports the efforts of the Government and the rural population of Kenya to ensure that improved protection and sustainable use of natural resources and ecosystems goes hand in hand with livelihood improvement and poverty reduction.

The programme development objective is: Sustainable Environmental Management in Support of Livelihoods in Kenya and the programme will be implemented through three separate but interlinked components:

  • Environmental Policy Support (EPS)
  • Strategic Environmental Management Support (SEMS)
  • Community Based Environmental Management Support (CBEMS)
