IUCN – The World Conservation Union has a presence in the north (NWFP and Northern Areas) of Pakistan for more than ten years. Through Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) supported projects, Sarhad Provincial Conservation Strategy (SPCS) and the Northern Areas Strategy for Sustainable Development (NASSD), IUCN has promoted sustainable development concepts and the integration of environmental considerations into development planning in the North-West Frontier Province and in the Northern Areas. It has contributed to shaping policy and regulatory frameworks at regional and sub-regional levels, and has also enhanced capacity of public, private and civil society organizations in pursuing environmental conservation and the equitable and sustainable natural resource management. Programme support for PSNP falls within the purview of SDC’s priority domains – Improving Governance and Increasing Incomes.
