Fostering Agricultural Markets Activity (FARMA) is a development project funded by USAID and Sida. It provides technical assistance in Bosnia Herzegovina (BiH) subsectors of agriculture markets through demand driven assistance aimed at improved competitiveness of BiH agricultural products. FARMA is to expand environmentally sustainable production, processing and sales of value-added agricultural products. The expected result of FARMA is economic growth and contribution to poverty reduction.

While the FARMA project focuses on the development of the private sector, it does also coordinate with BiH government entities. FARMA assists to provide wholesale agricultural prices to the private sector on a daily basis both by radio broadcast and SMS messaging. FARMA also wishes to assist the government of BiH to advance its own planning and information system development. This includes:

  • Supplying BiH government offices with access to the daily price information.
  • Offering hardware and software to appropriate BiH government offices for managing price information.
  • Providing information gather visits to the marketing information system services of regional countries.
  • Assisting the working group to advance the BiH government plans for an agricultural information system.

The purpose of this assignment is related to the development of an agricultural information system to serve the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina. There is a “working group” comprised of representatives from relevant state, entity, and district ministries. There is a possibility of an EC funded project to assist BiH in the development on an information system. The purpose of this assignment is to help the working group advance the planning in support of the development of a system.
