Target was to review the CSP II (Core Support Programme, Phase II) of the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU), and provide possible recommendations in order to ensure programme relevance, feasibility, cost-effectiveness and sustainability. The appraisal provided information to Joint financing partners to justify the acceptance, modification or rejection of the proposed funding and to give recommendations on modifications and follow-up work to finalize the proposal.
The Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) had been implementing the Core Support Programme (CSP) since 2009. The support had been provided through a joint financing arrangement between Finland, Sweden, Netherlands and We Effect (former Swedish Cooperative Centre) and ZNFU. ZNFU had provided a proposal for funding for a Core Support Programme phase II.

The CPS II goal was to contribute to a sustainable and competitive agriculture sector that assures improved household food security, on-farm incomes and employment. The CSP objective aimed to build a strengthened ZNFU with improved sustainability, strong leadership and organizational structures providing effective member representation and services. The three main result areas were;
Result area 1: Strengthened ZNFU institutional organisational capacity
Result area 2: Diversified and improved services and outreach
Result area 3: Strengthened ZNFU lobby and advocacy capacity.
