The aim of the assignment is to get a better understanding of alternative markets and solutions having the potential to increase climate resilience and biodiversity (and at the same time help to lower risks for farmers and increasing their income). Such agriculture inputs will here be referred to as biological inputs, or bioinputs1, and alternative technologies.

The assignment should thus emphasize on the size and potential for alternative solutions as opposed to conventional types of inputs, namely

(a) agro-chemicals; (b) inorganic fertilizers; and (3) their correlation to seed supply in east Africa. These alternative solutions shall support smallholder farmers in east Africa to build climate resilience and restore biodiversity and natural resources.
