The Technical Assistance helped the Government design an agribusiness development project to address fundamental problems in the sector. The feasibility study:

  • Assessed in detail the constraints and the impediments to the development of the agribusiness sector in Sri Lanka;
  • Proposed strategies for overcoming the constraints that have been prioritized by the sector stakeholders; and
  • Recommended design and the implementation arrangements for the ensuing project.

The Technical Assistance was designed to build on ADB's earlier assistance, lessons learned, and support provided under the Second Perennial Crop Development Project which supported the development of perennial crops in Sri Lanka by ensuring sustainable credit facilities and effective extension services. The feasibility study focused on marketing and value addition to build on the successful implementation of the earlier project.
