The Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project (RWSSIP) aimed to increase access to improved water and sanitation services and develop a pilot long-term support mechanism to promote the sustainability of community managed rural water supply schemes. The project channeled investment to new community water supply and sanitation schemes in 55 Districts in Nepal and supported the rehabilitation of WSS infrastructure in 14 earthquake-affected districts. The project was executed by the Ministry of Water Supply and Sanitation and the investment component is implemented by the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Fund Development Board (Fund Board). The project followed the recently closed Second Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project (RWSSP II). The objective of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Technical and Social Verification assignment was to improve functionality and sustainability of the rural water supply schemes by strengthening overall project implementation support activities in order to take appropriate and timely decisions in scheme implementation. The assignment ensured that the activities are implemented as envisaged and identifies areas of further improvement to ensure sustained functionality of WS schemes.
