The project Support to Parliament and Civil Society Organizations in Jordan was part of an overall programme, entitled Support to Democratic Governance aiming at supporting the democratic governance in Jordan. The program had three components:

  • Component 1: To strengthen the institutional and administrative capacity of the Chamber of Deputies (CoD);
  • Component 2: To build the institutional capacity of decentralised structures in all Governorates;
  • Component 3: To support Non State Actors (NSAs) to act as an effective drive for good governance and accountability.

The Altair Asesores – SIPU Consortium was responsible for Component 1.

Specifically, the assignment aimed to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, accountability and transparency of the CoD, enhance the functioning of the CoD committees and enhance the functioning of the Secretariat of the CoD.

It also aimed to strengthen interactions and accountability between the CoD and its constituents, strengthen interactions between the CoD and the European Parliament and EU Member States ‘Parliaments and enhance participation of women in the work of the CoD.

A study visit for female Members of Parliament (MPs) and staff from the Secretariat of the CoD was conducted as part of the institutional and administrative capacity support and to strengthen participation of women in the work of the CoD. The aim of the study visit was to learn more about the Swedish parliamentary system, political participation and gender mainstreaming. The Delegation also exchanged experiences with Swedish MPs on advocacy for women’s political participation as political representatives.
