The objective of the project was to increase the national capacities to cope with issue of domestic violence, to improve institutional support provided to the victims, and to increase public dialogue on the issues of domestic violence and gender relations. To this end the project designed two training manuals, one for Suriname and another for the Caribbean. The manuals were used to train a core cadre of trainers (over 200). These trainers were police and social workers, who upon their return to the home countries provided training to their colleagues in the police force, the government and in NGOs working with the domestic violence prevention.
