The Regional Water Supply Project (RWSP) in Beni Suef Governorate started in 1993 and it lasted until 2003. In the early stages of Phase I the emphasis was on the investment program for demonstration schemes of Water Supply, Sanitation and Solid Waste Management as well as the supporting activities for three districts including extensive collection of basic data and mapping. Later the focus was gradually shifted, and a large number of studies and investigations were carried out. A comprehensive network for community participation was established, consisting of local women coordinators as well as village and district level coordinators.
