Solar power
Solar power shows renewables at their best
Make the most of solar energy with us
The shift to renewables is accelerating, and regulation is pushing us towards a fossil-free future. Under the EU Energy Efficiency Directive, all new buildings must be equipped with solar technology by 2028 where this is technically feasible and economically viable. Public sector deadlines are even more demanding.
FCG is a reliable, multidisciplinary partner for municipalities, wellbeing services counties, property owners and private-sector operators. We help you meet the directive’s energy-efficiency targets and harness solar power on the path to a greener future.
Deliver your solar project with our support
As a multidisciplinary provider, we bring experienced specialists in renewable energy, construction and structural design, environmental impacts and municipal finance. We are a natural partner when you want a single team that can advise on every question related to solar power deployment.
Our structural and building services specialists can assess the benefits that solar panels would bring to a property and help design the technical implementation. Our renewable energy specialists support you through the entire lifecycle of a solar power project – from development and design to operations and decommissioning decisions.
Case studies
HSY: Solar power for Ämmässuo
In 2023 FCG completed a preliminary study for Helsinki Region Environmental Services (HSY) on establishing a solar power plant at the Ämmässuo eco-industrial centre. We assessed potential land areas for solar power and defined three sizing options.
For the selected option we prepared detailed generation forecasts, investment and operation and maintenance cost forecasts, and reviewed subsidies and taxation. We conducted economic appraisals and mapped both grant-based and market-based support. The Ämmässuo area, especially the surroundings of Ämmäsvuori, was identified as well suited to solar power because of its flat, open terrain.
The study highlighted key considerations when planning solar power on a former landfill. We noted significant unused roof area on site and concluded that locally produced solar power could help keep the centre electricity self-sufficient in the future. An area that previously had no use could become an important contributor to local electricity generation.
